Stop Looking for the Right Answer
There's no single correct thing to automate first. There's just the thing costing you the most time or money right now. Waiting for the perfect starting point is what keeps people stuck.
A Simple Way to Pick
Look back at the last two weeks. Write down anything you or your team did more than five times, the exact same way, every time. That's your list. Not a framework. Not a strategy session. Just what happened.
The usual suspects: the same follow-up email, the same data entered twice, the same approval you're always chasing down, the same quote built from scratch every time.
A good filter once you've got that list: look for the fewest rules and the biggest payoff. Fewest rules plus biggest payoff equals your easiest win, and easiest wins are what get automation projects finished instead of stalling out.
Start Small, Not Perfect
Pick whatever's on that list that happens the most. Automate that one thing first. Not everything, one thing. You'll learn more from fixing one real process than you will from six months of planning.
